One of the leading violinists of our time, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg is best known for her exhilarating performances, passionate interpretations, musical depth and unique charisma. Born in Rome, Salerno-Sonnenberg moved to the United States at the age of eight to study at The Curtis Institute of Music. Later studying at Juilliard, she began her professional career in 1981 when she won the Walter W. Naumburg International Violin Competition. Her exceptional artistry is paired with great musical intelligence which, along with her unique personality, has earned her many other prestigious awards and opportunities.

Salerno-Sonnenberg started her own record label, NSS Music in 2005, where she has since released several of her most successful albums. She is currently acting as the Music Director of the New Century Chamber Orchestra and just completed a U.S. tour earlier this year. She has appeared on several news and TV programs including 60 Minutes, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, A&E's Artist of the Week with Elliot Forrest and the popular comedic sitcom, Dharma & Greg. She has also published an autobiography titled, Nadja: On My Way, discussing her experiences as a young musician building her career.

"A Conversation with the Conductor" featuring Maestro Gerard Schwarz

Crave Restaurant : 5pm

This fascinating evening will feature fine dining combined with fine wines in the warm and intimate atmosphere of tapas restaurant Crave in Boone, highlighted by an informal talk by internationally renowned conductor Gerard Schwarz. Attendees will enjoy a Wine Tasting Dinner as Maestro Schwarz shares his experiences and insights as a symphony conductor with the world's leading orchestras. Having founded New York's Mostly Mozart Festival, Gerard Schwarz has also served as music director of the Seattle Symphony, and currently serves as music director of the Eastern Music Festival, as well as an artistic partner for An Appalachian Summer Festival.

This event precedes the 8pm performance by the Eastern Festival Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Schwarz, featuring guest artist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Motor coach transportation will be available for those who attend the dinner event, and who wish to ride the bus directly from the restaurant to the concert at Farthing Auditorium. Guests will be returned to their cars following the performance.
