As part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway, author Anne Mitchell Whisnant discusses her book Super-Scenic Motorway: A Blue Ridge Parkway History, which places the parkway in both national and regional contexts. Whisnant's discussion includes a look into her extensive research that revealed fascinating facts about the construction of this national treasure.

Whisnant holds degrees in history from Birmingham Southern College and UNC-Chapel Hill, and currently serves as Director of Research, Communications and Programs for the Office of Faculty Governance at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she also teaches North Carolina history and public history. She has served as a consultant to the National Park Service and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and Blue Ridge Parkway 75, Inc. Whisnant's study of the parkway's history was spurred by her love of the mountains.
